U.S. Congressman. He studied law at a private agency, was admitted to the bar in 1925 and commenced the practice of law in Gainesville, Georgia. He was judge of the City Court of Hall County (1932-34). In 1935, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fourth Congress and to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving until 1945. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
