Samuel Estep was in the 1850 Scott County census with age given as 59 instead of 83-a common error for elderly persons. He would have died in Scott County, VA between 1853 and 1860.

17 June 1853: "Samuel Estep aged 95 resident of Scott Co, Va, who was an orderly Sergent in comment of John Thaza in War with Cherokee Indians, was drafted in Green County, TN at Greenville about 1st March 1789 for 15 month term and continued in about 3 weeks after that time and was honorably discharged at Knoxville, TN on the 18th day of March 1789 on account of sickness in his family and by hiring a substitute to perform service in his place for said term of months as appear by the records. He makes this declaration to obtain Bounty Land Sept 28, 1850. (Letter substantiating service indicates Mr Estep very feeble, and not an educated man.)" from Estep Genealogy & Family History, by Russel Adin Estep (1947).
