Ellen L. Swanson, 70, of Kearney, died May 6, 2014 at her home. Memorial services will be Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney with Pastor Cathy Cole officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
Ellen was born October 30, 1943 in Mullen, Nebraska to Elmer and Violet (Bailey) Hawk. She graduated in 1961 from Fair Grove High School in Missouri. She married Ted Swanson on September 9, 1961 in Aurora, Nebraska. Ellen worked at Family Fresh Market formerly Sun Mart for over 30 years, where most recently she was the manager of the Liquor Mart. Ellen loved being with family and friends. She also enjoyed working and absolutely loved talking with her customers, avid Husker Football fan, flowers, growing tomatoes, her cats, bird watching, music, and dancing.
Ellen is survived by her daughters: Cindy Wilson and her husband Rob of Kearney, NE, Jodi Cordle and her husband Brad of Kearney, NE, Carol Swanson and Gene Freeze of Kearney, NE, sons: Russ Swanson and A.J. Brophy of Kearney, NE, Corey Swanson and his wife Nancy of Springfield, NE, brother, Frank Hawk and his wife Sharon of Norwalk, IA, sisters: Melvina Brown of Prole, IA, Deanna Cheek and her husband Wayne of Republic, MO, Frances Scherff of Aurora, NE, 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter Lindsay Swanson, and one brother James Hawk.
