Major League Baseball Player. Catcher for the Philadelphia Athletics beginning in 1937. He played there until 1944 when he was traded to the Boston Red Sox during the summer. He was a member of the 1946 Red Sox team which lost to the Cardinals in the World Series where he had no hits in 15 series at-bats. The next season, he was traded to the Detroit Tigers and the next season to the Philadelphia Phillies. In his 12 year career, he batted .248 with 15 home runs. He was a two-time All-Star in 1942 Philadelphia and 1946 with Boston.
