Jack Cone, child of God, passed to the Lord on May 8, 2014. He was born January 3, 1922 to Nannie Strickland Cone and Charles R. Cone, Sr. and lived his entire life in Castalia. He was a contractor and built hundreds of homes in Nash and surrounding counties. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy Winstead Cone, brother Julian Cone, and sister Mary Cone Eatmon. He leaves to cherish his memory five children, Graham Mercer (Pattie), Steven Mercer (Bettie), Becky Mercer Stallings (George), Glenda Cone Nines (Tommy) and Brenda Cone Wheeless (Kent). He also leaves six grandchildren, Jay Mercer, Joanna Mercer Hale, Justin Mercer, Jamie Mercer Parker, Kevin Stallings, Chris Lewis and seven great grandchildren. Jack served his community and country in numerous ways. He was a World War II army veteran and served with the Japan Occupation Forces, as a town commissioner and a volunteer fireman for the town of Castalia. He took pride in helping others achieve their goal of owning their own home. He was never without a witty sense of humor and loved and valued his friends and family. He will be missed by many. The family would like to thank all the staff of Autumn Care of Nash for the care that they provide to him during his several stays over the past few years. In lieu of flower, memorial contributions may be made to the Building and Grounds fund at Castalia Baptist Church. Family visitation will be Friday May 9, from 6:30 – 8:00 PM at the Cornerstone Funeral Home on Hwy 58 South in Nashville and the funeral will be Saturday May 10 at 11:00 AM at Cornerstone.
