He was born Feb. 7, 1916, in Franklin County, Ind., the son of Joseph F. and Mary Brockman Hirt. He was a retired chauffeur for Hillenbrand Industries of Batesville and a retired farmer. He was a member of Holy family Catholic Church in Oldenburg and of the Knights of Columbus Council 1461 of Batesville.
On Feb. 19, 1944, he married Cleopha A. Giesting, in St. Michael Catholic Church, Brookville, Ind., and she survives; with three sons, David and Richard Hirt, both of Batesville, and Dennis Hirt, Crescent Springs, Ky.; three daughters, Darlene Hirt, Batesville, Doris Pytynia, Carmel, Ind., and Donna Hirt, Carmel, Ind.; 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by one son, Dale G. Hirt, and one sister, Anna Mae Zinser.
The Rev. Sylvester Heppner, OFM, will conduct mass at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Oldenburg.
Burial will be at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Oldenburg.
Visitation will be at Weigel Funeral Home, Batesville, from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
There will be a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may go to the Oldenburg Fire Department or the Oldenburg Academy.
