GARWOOD - Leona Barrera, 79, of Garwood, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003.

She was born Oct. 29, 1923, in Ellinger, to the late Cyril J. and Sophie Buzek Shimek. She was a homemaker and member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nada. She was a member of Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of America.

Survivors: husband, Abelino "Poncho" Barrera; sisters, Lydia Schoellmann, Martha Ott, and Ella Mae Merta, all of El Campo; and brother, Lawrence Shimek of Garwood.
Preceded in death by: first husband, Lee Joseph; and infant daughter.

Visitation will begin 11 a.m. today at Triska Funeral Home chapel.
A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home chapel.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Rev. Joseph Koebel officiating.

Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Nada. Triska Funeral Home, El Campo, 979-543-3681.
