Seth C. Martin, 78, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014, at his residence.

He was born July 15, 1935, to Howard S. Martin and Majesta (Harvey) Martin in Fairbanks. He married Carolyn (McDaniel) Martin on July 6, 1956, and she survives.

Other survivors include two sons: Greg Martin and wife, Linda, of Shelbyville; and Brian Martin and wife, Brenda, of Waldron; daughter, Dawn Martin of Shelbyville; seven grandchildren: Sabrina Wampler and husband, Kyle; Jette McCormick and husband, Ryan; Tyler Cole and wife, Tabitha; Pierce Martin, Ross Martin, Tara Cole and Gregg Martin; and six great-grandchildren, Taylor, Carly and Brady Wampler and Alexis, Isabella and Madalynne Cole.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Majesta Weddle.

Mr. Martin had been a resident of this area since 1951.

He graduated from Morristown High School in 1955, and attended Olivet Nazarene University of Kankakee, Illinois.

He was custodial supervisor for Shelbyville Central Schools, where he was loved and respected by the students. He retired in 1997 after 37 years of service. He had also worked at General Electric for 10 years.

Mr. Martin was a member of the Shelbyville First Church of the Nazarene.

Seth loved his Savior, his family, music and his church. He was minister of music at his church for nine years. He sang with the Jubilation Singers, the Heaven Bound Quartet, with his wife, Carolyn, and also sang for 12 years with the Hoosier Four gospel quartet. He enjoyed retirement, traveling and spending his time with this family and great friends.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Shelbyville First Church of the Nazarene, 2315 S. Riley Highway.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at the church, with the Rev. Steve Bohall officiating.

Burial will be at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shelbyville First Church of the Nazarene, Compassionate Ministries or Shelby County Cancer Association in care of the funeral home.
