She was born October 19, 1916 in Elberta, Utah to Robert and Ida (Kelley) Shay. Following high school, Tessie attended college and obtained her nursing degree.
On November 23, 1940, she married Dwight Hinton in San Francisco. Lynden became their home in the 1940's. During WWII, Tessie followed Dwight and worked at various hospitals. In 1947 they started Hinton Motors. While raising her family, she continued her nursing career at the Christian Health Care Center.
Tessie enjoyed sewing and attending her ladies sewing club when her children were young. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. Other hobbies and special interests included shopping, golfing and traveling south for the winter with her husband.
Tessie and Dwight were both charter members and actively involved with VFW Post 9301.
The family is extremely grateful to the caring staff at the Christian Health Care Center for their loving care and assistance given to Tessie.
Preceded in death by her parents, four siblings and husband, Dwight, in 1996.
Memorial services will be held Monday, 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 205 12th St. in Lynden, with private burial in Greenacres Memorial Park.
Memorial donations are suggested to: Lynden Community Center, 401 Grover St. or Lynden Christian Health Care Center, 855 Aaron Dr., both of Lynden, WA 98264.
