Sgt. Mark Daniel Ackerman, 28, former resident of Menominee, died June 16, 2011, at Fort Drum, NY. Mark was born Feb. 18, 1983, in Marinette, to Bob and Judy (Salewsky) Ackerman.

He graduated from Menominee High School, Class of 2002.

Mark married Kara Nerat on April 29, 2008, in New York.

Mark was currently serving in the United States Army as a unit supply specialist with the 10th Sustainment Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 10th Mountain Division. His awards and decorations included two Army Commendation Medals, two Army achievement medals, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Ribbon, three Certificates of Achievement, the parachutist Badge and the Air Assault Badge.

He enjoyed spending time in the gym working out, traveling with his wife, deer hunting, the camaraderie of camp life with his dad, brother and friends.

He is survived by his wife Kara;
one son Christian Ackerman;
his parents Bob and Judy (Salewsky) Ackerman;
one brother Ben Ackerman;
his paternal grandfather Vernon Ackerman, all of Menominee, MI;
his maternal grandparents Lloyd and Nora Salewsky, Wallace, MI;
his mother and father-in-law, Don and Cindy Nerat;
brothers-in-law Phil and Aric,
a nephew;
godparents, Mark and Ruth Vandenberg, and a niece, all of Menominee, MI;
aunts, uncles, and friends.

Friends may call at the Cadieu Thielen Home June 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held June 25, at 11 a.m. from the Community Covenant Church, Menominee. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services June 25. The Rev. Mark Johnson and Rev. Tom Lach will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Menominee, with full military honors. A memorial fund has been established in Mark's name.
