Alvin Gene Ferrin, 79, passed away on May 5, 2014 in West Valley City.

He was born February 8, 1935 in Salt Lake City to parents John Josiah Ferrin and Pearl Leone Shaw Ferrin.

He Graduated from West High School, University of Utah, and Brigham Young University.

He married Eleanor Terry on December 11, 1957 in Salt Lake L.D.S Temple.

He served in the U.S. Army, where he won several marksmanship awards. Alvin taught school at Granger Elementary for thirty-four years.

He held many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving three full-time missions and many years as ward and stake missionary. He enjoyed serving in the Jordan River Temple.

He had a passion for gardening and sharing his harvest. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking with family and friends. Alvin was an avid reader and journal keeper.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; sons, Michael (Renae) Ferrin, Richard (Rachelle) Ferrin, and Samuel (Robin) Ferrin; daughters, Karrie (Rick) Palmer, Sue (Dan) Turley, and Julie (Frank) Horn; siblings, Leah Fay Ferrin; twin brother, Calvin Ferrin; twenty-eight grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jay and Ralph Ferrin; and son-in-law, Troy Curtis.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. in the Granger South Stake Center, 4251 South 4800 West, West Valley City. Viewings will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, and prior to the services at the church on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m.
Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
