Harold F. Bardon, 89, of 1309 Koch's Lane, formerly of 1217 Locust, died at 10:30 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 7, 2009) in St. Vincent's Home. He was born Nov. 2, 1919, in Quincy, a son of Peter and Minnie Ellerbrake Bardon. On Feb. 28, 1942, he was married to Alvera Stegeman in the St. Francis Catholic Church parsonage by the Rev. Thomas A. Rust. She survives. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army, as a sergeant in the 986th Engineers Squadron, in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre from June 15, 1942, to Nov. 10, 1945. He attended Brayton Trade School in St. Louis. He retired in 1985 after more than 35 years as owner and operator of Bardon Body Shop. He was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ. Harold was a lifetime member and past president of North Side Boat Club, a past member of Quincy Auto Service Association, United Commercial Travelers, Mississippi Valley Hunters and Fisherman's Club, and Triple Oaks Club and was an active member of American Legion Post No. 37. Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Barbara Bockhaus of Quincy and Nancy Friye and her husband, Thomas, of Quincy; five grandchildren, David Bockhaus and his wife, Laurie, San Leandro, Calif., Cathy Bockhaus Towl and her husband, Brandon, of University City, Mo., Todd Friye and his wife, Dee, of Quincy, Travis Friye and his wife, Pam, of Quincy, and Trevor Friye and his wife, April, of Quincy; seven great-grandchildren, Larissa Bockhaus of Hammond, La., Austin, Logan, Noah, Jonah and Joshua Friye, all of Quincy, and Hayden Towl of University City; a sister, Renetta Arms of Branford, Conn.; a cousin, Valera Eland of Plymouth, Mich.; and several nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Bruce Bardon, killed in action in Vietnam; three sisters, Larina Meyer and her husband, Art, Norma Bardon and Hazel Oster and her husband, Marvin; two brothers, Arthur and Leroy and his wife, Florence; and a son-in-law, Roger Bockhaus. SERVICES: 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Chaplain Steve Disseler officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
