Doyce was born in Center, Texas to Fredrick and Cassie Childs. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, F.H. Childs and Mack Childs; and sister, Dimple Ruth Yarbrough. He is survived by one sister, Mary Lee Stewart and husband Doug of Orange, Texas.

He was a devoted grandfather to five grandsons, ten granddaughter, and five great-grandchildren.
Doyce personified friendship, compassion, giving and sharing. His home was always a welcome sanctuary to all who needed a true friend. A selfless man, his life was dedicated foremost to his family. His portrait will forever hang in our hearts. He will always be remembered for his love of the written word; be it reading the Bible, writing poetry and songs or his favorite western novels
Doyce was a longtime Christian and member of The Apostolic Church of Beaumont. His personal ministry impacted innumerable lives. Even in his manner of facing death, he exemplified one of lifes greatest lessons of endurance, faith and love

Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 11, 2004 at Broussards, 409 Cemetery Road, Silsbee, with a graveside service to follow at 2:30 P.M. at the Powdrill Cemetery in Center, Texas. A gathering of family and friends will be Friday, December 10, 2004 from 5:00P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at the Mortuary
