WASHBURN COMMUNITY (Bostic), NC -- Donald Willard "Don" Ackman, 81, of 2855 Bostic to Sunshine Highway, died January 3, 2006 at 10:am during dialysis from the complications of chronic renal failure, congestive heart and emphysema. He was born March 2nd, 1924 in Imperial, PA the only son to Charles Edward Ackman and Edna Bella Ehle Ackman.

Don enlisted in the US Army in 1943 during World War II. He was trained in Demolitions and sent to the European Theatre with the 157th Engineers Combat, 7th and 3rd Army. His was one of the units that landed six days after the "D-Day" invasion at Omaha Beach.

Don worked in the Pennsylvania steel mills for many years. He met and married his first wife Helen Mae Koethe on May 22nd, 1948 in Washington County, PA. In 1952 they moved to Titusville, Florida, where they adopted their only child Pamela Dawn. Helen Mae died August 17th, 1966 and he married Eugenia Lucille "Jean" Kaiser (Mrs. Harold Paul Drawdy) in 1967. They divorced that same year. He then married Mrs. Myra Cook Morgan Ricketts in June 15th, 1968 in Orange County, FL. Donald retired as a Lineman with Florida Power & Light in February 1986 after 33 years of faithful service. He and wife Myra moved to the Rutherford County area in August 1988.

Don enjoyed gardening, reading Louis L'Amour westerns, woodworking and gold panning in the North Carolina mountains.

He is predeceased by his parents, his first wife Helen Mae Koethe, and third wife Myra Cook in January 18th, 2004. Survivors are his daughter Pamela (Steven R.) Hudson of Patterson, GA; sister Mrs. Florence Ruth Harper of Burgettstown, PA; nieces, Ms. Sharen Joy Brady, Mrs. Carol J. (Hub) Reed of Burgettstown, PA, and Mrs. Cheryl Dawn "Ginger" Doak of Weirton, WV; step-son Paul E. (Brenda) Ricketts of Charlotte, NC; step-daughter Diane (William R.) Burke of Alachua, FL; dear friends, Clyde & Mildred Lovelace, and W. W. "Bud" Williamson; and other treasured family & friends. He also leaves his faithful companion and friend, a miniature schnauzer Sam Jr., to mourn his master's loss.

Memorialization was by cremation with a request for no funeral, however a marker was completed beside his first wife, Helen, with a ceremony and spreading of his ashes, at Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 2116 Garden Street, Titusville, FL at a later time. Funeral Home in charge of preparations was Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home, 359 East Church Street, Bostic, NC 28018 (phone # 828-248-1234).

Donald Ackman and Helen Mae Koethe Ackman are my adopted parents. After Mom's death in 1966, Don went on to marry in rapid succession to two women, the first ending in divorce. He was a vile, vitriolic man of no redeeming values that was difficult to live with.

Don sold the house in Titusville, Brevard County, FL in 1988 and moved to Rutherford County, North Carolina, first to the town of Ruth, then to the Washburn community near Bostic with his 3rd wife, Myra Cook Morgan Ricketts Ackman (died 18 Jan 2004). It was the third marriage for both of them.
