CASTLEWOOD, Va. Carol Johnson Jennings, 77, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to be with her beloved daughter in heaven, Kay, on Monday, May 5, 2014, at Indian Path Medical Center, Kingsport, Tennessee. She was born in Dante, Virginia, daughter of the late Carl W. and Sophia Hilda Dingus Johnson. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Kay Castle Adkisson; one brother, Taft Johnson; four sisters, Juanita Ervin, Ann Tipton, Clara Fields Hileman, and Clinas Kilgore. Her father died before her birth and her mother died when she was five. Carol was raised by her sister and her husband, James and Juanita Ervin of Dante, Virginia. She graduated from Castlewood High School in 1955 (She was crowned Miss Castlewood during the first year of the school as an eighth grade student in 1950). She retired from Pittston Coal Company after 30 years. She was an active and faithful member of the St. Paul First Baptist Church, St. Paul, Virginia. She is survived by her husband, William Sid Jennings; one daughter, Terri Bush and husband, Logan of Castlewood, Virginia; one son, Tim Castle of Kingsport, Tennessee; one sister, Louise Fields of Castlewood, Virginia; one nephew/brother, James Ervin Jr. of Dameron, Maryland; one son-in-law, W. J. Adkisson of Castlewood, Virginia; three grandchildren, Lori Phillips Campbell and husband, Bryon of Abingdon, Virginia, Thad Patrick of Castlewood, Virginia, and Kayla Phillips of Norton, Virginia; one special step great granddaughter, Adriana Street; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Carol Johnson Jennings will be conducted 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, Virginia with the Rev. Mike Moore officiating. Committal Services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at the Tower of Prayer Mausoleum, Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Virginia. Family and Friends will meet at the funeral home and go in procession to the cemetery leaving 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Pallbearers will be grandson, Thad Patrick, and nephews, James E. Ervin Jr., Ronald A. Fields, Jock Fields, Frank Kilgore, and Kenneth Johnson. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Virginia. Flowers will be accepted, but memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 546, St. Paul, VA 24283.
