Hiram Stamper was the son of John Whitt Stamper and Lucinda Hogg. He married Arena/Anna Francis, daughter of Thomas Francis and Louranie Polly on 3-1-1857 in Letcher Co.
Hiram served in the Civil War where he got his nickname, 'Capt. Hiram'. He enlisted in the 5th Kentucky regiment on November 1 1861 at Whitesburg, Kentucky and served in the Co A; 13th Kentucky Cavalry, CSA regiment from September to October 1862. He was captured at the Battle of Leatherwood in Perry Co., Kentucky on October 17 1862 and later exchanged. He was again captured at Gladeville, Virginia on July 7, 1863.
