Daniel R Metcalf was the son of Thomas A Metcalf (b. 1815; d. 1897) and Mary Ann Saltsman (b. 1822; d. 1907). He was the 11th of 11 children. Thomas was immigrant to this country aboard the USS Envoy on Jun 7, 1830.

Daniel was born in Jan 1866 in Missouri, and lived in Missouri until moving to Arkansas between 1907 and 1910. The family then moved to Oklahoma between 1910 and 1913. On Aug 23, 1887, Daniel married Anna Lucinda "Lew" Minks (b. 1870; d. 1934) in Washington County, Missouri by Reverend T H Clayton.

Daniel and Lew had 11 known children: Eurie Belle (b. 1889; d. 1977), Walter (b/d. 1891), Francis Thomas "Frank" (b. 1893; d. 1971), Nellie Grace (b. 1895; d. 1977), Lucinda Ann (b. 1898; d. 1922), Everett (b. 1901; d. 1939), Charles William (b. 1903; d. 1965), Lela Louise (b. 1907; d. 2001), Virgie Edna (b. 1910; d. 2001), Jack (b. 1913; d. 1992), and Hill Relford (b. 1915).

Daniel died in Leflore, Oklahoma on Jan 30, 1920.
