Bettie Creech Cross, 86, of Colonial Heights, formerly of Virginia Beach, Virginia died Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Born in Blackville, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie Boyd Creech and Lois Nevils Creech. Bettie was preceded in death by her twin brother, and a grandson who died in infancy. She graduated from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and was employed many years by the Virginia Beach Public School System in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Bettie enjoyed volunteering for the Red Cross, public libraries, and elementary schools. While living in Virginia Beach, Bettie attended the London Bridge Baptist Church, but took great pride in being a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church in Blackville, South Carolina. As a military wife, Bettie established a home in many different locations and always enjoyed raising her children and playing bridge with friends. Bettie is survived and leaves precious memories to her daughter, Cherin and husband, John Taylor of Prince George, Virginia; her daughter, Bonnie and husband, Michael DelBalzo of Winchester, Virginia; and her son, Lonnie Cross and wife, Debra of Smithfield, Virginia. Bettie will be greatly missed by her children, nine grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Blackville Cemetery, Hampton Avenue, Blackville, South Carolina 29817 with the Reverend Dr. Thomas Terry officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to the Blackville Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 365, Blackville, South Carolina 29817. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
