David L. Lawton, 91, of Gloversvile passed away peacefully at Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville on September 30th 2015, with his loving family by his side. He was born January 10th 1924 in the town of Northampton, son of the late Darwin and Etta Kirchman Lawton.
He is a 1942 graduate of Northville high school. He worked for over 45 years as a foreman at the Fulton County Silk Mill in Gloversville. He is also a veteran of the United States Army he served from 1943 until 1947. He is a proud veteran. He was the commander of the Fulton County Veterans Council, a member of the Gloversville VFW and American Legion also part of the firing squad and was a Chaplin known as "Father Dave". He was also a member of the Gloversville Foresters club, and a life member of the Fulton County Sheriff's Association.
He is survived by sons Edward Holland and John Holland, daughters Carol A. Carmona(Miguel), Barbara J. Cintron (Luis), Robin L. Bergh all of Amsterdam, Deborah L. Slezak of Victor, NY, Regina Kolck, Gloria Benedict, Edwina Curtis and Mary Robinson and a sister Mary Baird of Syracuse. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is predeceased by his former wife, Ethel Quant and previous wife Elizabeth Holland. He is also predeceased by brothers, Darwin and Edward Lawton and stepson, Richard Holland.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday October 4th 2015 at Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street Gloversville, New York 12078, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. A service will follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Chuck Hesselink. Cremation will take place at Parkview Crematory in Schenectady. A burial will follow at Prospect Cemetery in Northville.
