Lindsay “Sonny” Clark Johnson, 81, of Pentress, WV died Monday, September 7, 2015 at his residence.

He was born February 24, 1934 at Blacksville, a son of the late Donald Claude Johnson and Gladys Evelyn Darling Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a retired union laborer.

He was chairman of the Clay-Battelle Public Service System, a position that he started in 1967. He was a Gold Card member of the Labors Local 379. He was President of the Barbour Grays Civil War Reenactment Group, of which he had been a member for 22 years. Lindsay was active in presenting Civil War History at numerous area schools. He also enjoyed with his best friend, Noel Clemmer, participating in the Hanger Amputation at the reenactment of the first land battle of the Civil War in Philippi, WV which they also would reenact at many fairs and festivals.

He was an avid NASCAR fan and honorary member of the National FFA. He was a supporter of all of the Clay-Battelle sports programs. In his early years he played football for Clay-Battelle High School.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Clark Trout Johnson; two sons and spouses, Alexander Clark Johnson and his wife Brenda and John Lawrence Johnson and his wife Rhubena; two step-sons and their spouses, Warren Trout and his wife Ellen and Matthew Trout and his wife Ruthie; five grandsons and spouses, Zackary Johnson and his wife Della, Derek Johnson and his wife Cara, Christopher Johnson and his wife Autum, Taylor Johnson and his wife Caitlyn, and Tyler Johnson; four step-granddaughters and their spouses, Leanna Trout, Daphne Eddy and her husband Jason, Veronica Saska and her husband Matt, and Tiffany Trout; three step-grandsons and their spouses, Richard Trout and his wife Lizzie, Buddy Trout and his wife Bonnie, and Richard Duval and his wife Shari; seven great-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandson; and a niece, Ramona Lantz.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dora L. West Johnson; one son, Joseph Glenn Johnson; one sister, Barbera Jean Spitznogle; and a step-grandson, Charles Anthony Trout.

Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Thursday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1:00 PM Friday with Chaplin Danny Franke officiating. Interment will follow in the Olive Cemetery at Pentress.
