Represented his county in the Convention of 1775, member of the Council of Safety 1776, commissioned 7 Aug 1777 Attorney General of MD. Member of Legislature 1788-89, 1791 appointed Chief Judge of the judicial district composed of Cecil, Kent, Queene Anne and Talbot Counties. 1804-09 Judge of the Court of Appeals.
