Funeral service for Lillie E. Bryant, age 85, of Childersburg will be Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 10AM at the St. Mary's Episcopal Church with the Reverend Louis Skipper officiating. Burial will be in Childersburg Cemetery. Lillie Estelle Fancher Bryant was born in tiny Brierfield of Bibb County on June 15, 1927. Daughter of Clarence and Estelle Fancher, Lillie was the middle of three sisters, older sister Sarah and younger sister Lucille, both of whom Lillie outlived. She was very proud of her family ancestors were prominent in the early days of Alabama's coal and iron industry in Bibb and Shelby Counties. She was equally proud of their sacrifices in life and limb in service to the Confederacy. Lillie was a 1945 graduate of Bibb County High School in Centreville. She was introduced to her husband John Milton Bryant of Childersburg in late 1946 and they were married in 1947 on John Milton's 20th birthday and she was but 19. Making their home in Childersburg, they raised two sons, John Milton, Jr. and Robert Stephen. Lillie was a lifelong Episcopalian and she and John Milton and many others were the founders of Childersburg St. Mary's Episcopal Church. She served as St. Mary's first female Senior Warden, the parish's senior lay position. Mrs. Bryant is survived by her husband: John Milton, her two sons and their wives, and four nieces and one nephew. Curtis and Son Childersburg Chapel will direct the services.
