Probable parents are James Carter, Sr. and Nancy Ann of Powhatan & Fluvanna Co. VA.

Please contact me if you have any information on this James Carter at mrsfenton2004 at aim dot com. I have posted the Y-DNA results from The World Carter Project, as a photo from a living male descendant. Kit# 405196, Haplogroup R-M269, R1b-11. (Between May & July 2020 the Dna photo was deleted by someone, even tho the name was blackened out). On 26 Dec 2020 I upgraded the kit to the BigY-700, they asked for a new sample, which I collected from my uncle and it has been received and results are in. 1 other kit in the group is now in process on the Big test. A new 111 match has also been received and I am currently reviewing that family of Virginia, trying to find our connection/common ancestor within 2 generations. What a terrific Mother's Day gift!

These are things I do know about my 4th great grandfather.

***He was NOT married to Susannah Dukey/Dicky in 1803***
***Parents are NOT William Merriman Carter and Frances Leftwitch*** That Carter group is Y-DNA R1b-02.
***This is NOT James Landon Carter, nor James Molton Carter***
***NOT from the Capt. Thomas Carter line Y-DNA group R1b-02, NOR the Robert KING Carter Line R1b-32 group***
~~~~~~~~~
This Y-DNA group, R1b-11 has a Direct DNA match with a male living descendant of William Gabriel Carter 1830-1907 buried in the Carothers Cemetery in Dickson County, Tennessee at 111 markers in the World Carter Project. William Gabriel Carter is the brother to my 3rd great grandfather, Granville Smith Carter. He has also upgraded his test to the Big-Y. Confirming 1 step distance to the shared ancestor. Also have another Big-Y match with researching underway!
James A. Carter (middle initial from the tombstone of son, G.W. Carter) died between the 1860 and 1870 census in Graves Couny, Ky. James and 3rd wife, widower, Susannah White Morris were listed in the 1860 census of Graves county, Kentucky. Susannah was the widow of William Hillard Morris, Jr. 1775-1834.
There is a "Bible of James/Jeems Carter", copied by Ollie Annice Carter McGee, submitted by Frances Monet Carter, which is referenced in the Graves County, Kentucky History and Families, Volume II, page 181. They are direct descendants of Archibald Pullen Carter. Ann Carter graciously provided a transcript to me which I added as a photo, this is in Ollie's handwriting. Ollie goes on to say in her notes that the Bible was borrowed from Baldridge Carter, son of Andrew Jackson Carter of Dardonelle, Arkansas. I would love to see the handwriting and any details or dates on the bible, which should still be in existence.
Questionable Parents--the Ancestry information sources seem combined with this James Carter born 10-3-1776 and the James born 12-28-1776 dying in 1832 in Henry County, TN. Also another James Carter born about 1776 and dying in 1849 or 1850 in Jackson County, TN, he is listed as a physician on the death record. These 3 men are different persons with different families.
~~~~~~~~~~
James Carter and Archilbald Pullen were friends and moved from VA to TN together in about 1810. They lived next door to each other in the 1840 Dickson Co. TN census, they each named a child after the other, which is the last child linked here, Archibald Pullen Carter.
~~~~~~~~~
1st wife's name is not listed in the bible record but it is likely SALLY COX CARTER married Nov. 15, 1798 in Powhatan, VA., to a James Carter.
2nd wife- Elizabeth Vest Carter (2/13/1794-after 1839 or before 1846 in Dickson County, TN) Married May 25, 1814.(Davidson Co. TN records) She died during or soon after childbirth. She appears to be alive in the 1840 census of Dickson Co. TN. Elizabeth (Betsey) Vest is the daughter of Gabriel Vest born before 1766 per the Rutherford Co. History website. They have court records and newspaper listings of land transfers which name Gabriel's children along with who 2 of the females married on file. Look at Elizabeth's linked memorial for more of that information.
3rd wife, widower, Susanna White Morris, daughter of William White, Sr. & Nancy Whitehead. Married James Carter on September 4, 1847 in Dickson Co, TN. Susanna had at least 3 Morris children die as adults in Graves Co. & are also buried nearby. Wiley Morris 1817-1898 and Elijah Morris 1822-1894, and a daughter Nancy Morris Bateman 1820-1903.
