Virgil J. Morris,76, rural Emporia, Kansas, died at his home on Tuesday, May 6, 2014.

Virgil Morris was born in Emporia on May 28, 1937, the son of Virgil E. and Viola May (Pearson) Morris. He married Bonnie L. Andrews June 8, 1958 in Emporia. She survives of the home.

Survivors include: his wife; sons, Jim and Mike, of Emporia, and Raymond of Hartford, Kansas; brother, Paul Morris, Emporia; sister, Donna Williams, Emporia; fourteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter, Tamela Morris.

Virgil was a lifetime farmer, a building contractor, and sold grain bins. For several years, Virgil was a member of the Lyon County Commission, and had served as Chairman of the Commission. Following his service on the County Commission, he was employed by Lyon County. He loved shooting sporting clays.

Mr. Morris was a member of Emporia Masonic Lodge #12, A.F. & A.M. He was a member and Past President of the Lyon County Fair Board.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 9, 2014 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia, conducted by Pastor Norbert Tegtmeier. Interment will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church during the hour before the service on Friday.

Memorials have been established with Hand In Hand Hospice, Emporia Friends of the Zoo, Lyon County 4-H Fund, and the Lyon County Fair Board. Contributions may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
