OPAL L. CARTER, age 87, of Mount Vernon passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the Knox Community Hospital.

She was born on May 26, 1926 to the late Clarence and Gladys (Doup) Baker. Opal was a saleswoman for Stanley Products for over fifty years and was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and canning, but most of all she loved the time she spent with her family and friends.

She is survived by two sisters Kathleen Layman of Fredericktown, Donna Nicholls of Mount Vernon; her brother Paul (Debbie) Baker of Mount Vernon; her sister-in-law Betty Baker; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Opal was preceded in death by her husband Harold Carter; three brothers Clarence, Donald, and Gene Baker; and her sister Janet Nicholls.

Friends may call on Thursday, May 8, 2014 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home. A service will follow, at the funeral home, beginning at 12 p.m with Rev. Susan Stevens officiating. Burial will be held in Ebenezer Cemetery.
