Company H "Stanly Marksmen" of Stanly County, 14th North Carolina Infantry, Ramseur's Brigade, D.H. Hill's Division, 2nd Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.

Residence Stanly County NC; a 26 year-old Merchant.
Enlisted on 5/5/1861 at Stanly County, NC, he was mustered 6/6/1861 into "H" Co. NC 4th Regiment Volunteers as 2nd Sergeant. This regiment became the 14th North Carolina Infantry 11/14/1861.
Promoted to Orderly/1st Sergt 7/26/1861.
Promoted to 1st Lieut 4/27/1862.
POW 9/16/1862 Sharpsburg, MD; Confined 9/18/1862 Fort Delaware, DE.; Transferred 10/2/1862 Aiken's Landing, VA.; Exchanged 11/10/1862 Aiken's Landing, VA.; Returned 12/30/1862.
Mortally wounded 5/3/1863 in the Battle of Chancellorsville, VA.

The 14th Infantry Regiment, formerly the 4th Volunteers, completed its organization in June, 1861, at Garysburg, North Carolina. The 14th participated in the various campaigns of the Confederate Army from Williamsburg to Cold Harbor, fought under Gen. Early in the Shenandoah Valley, and ended the war at Appomattox.
It sustained 142 casualities at Chancellorsville.
