Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Bernard J. Balder, age 85, who died Monday at Little Falls Lutheran Care Center.

Burial will be in the St. Patrick's Parish Cemetery, Minden Township, Benton County.


Bernard was born in St. Cloud, MN to Ellsworth and Alvina (Rau) Balder.

He married Charlene Grow on June 17, 1953 in St. John's Catholic Church, Foley, MN. Bernard was an owner/operator in the trucking industry until his retirement in 1993. He loved farming, fishing, golfing, playing the concertina, polka dancing with Charlene and being with his grandchildren. Bernard was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Charlene; children, Julie (Mike) Montour, Linda Balder, Donna (Kurt) Baumgartner, Bernard (Kim) Balder; siblings, Teresa (Leo) Moore, Carol (Ernie) Jurek, Doris (Leonard) Powell, Jim (Bertie) Balder; grandchildren, Adam (Caitlin) Baumgartner, Aaron Baumgartner, Andrew Baumgartner, Brian Montour, Joshua Balder and Emily Balder.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Farley, Lucietta Stang and David Balder.
