The family originally came from Brabander, Samara, Russia. Anna Maria Bondank along with her child Marie, left in 1910 to join her husband Johannes Abt who went to the U.S. in 1907. They traveled by ship to Liverpool, England by way of Ellis Island to Kansas City, Kansas.

The next two children were born in Kansas, John and Ann. On Ann's baptism certificate I found a Joseph Bondank's name listed as a Godfather. I also looked into a city directory and found that Joseph was living with John and Anna on Renolds Street.

Every Bondank in this country is related to each other and I know that for a fact! My brother Jim is also tracing the family.

My Grandmother was Anna Maria Bondank who married Johannes Abt in Brabander Russia. Bondanks lived there since 1765.

Our family originally migrated there from the border of France & Germany. The last name was originally Bontempts, but was Germanized to Bondank over the years.
