Chester Carl Langerhans, 86, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, July 19, 2007, at Windcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 23, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with the Rev. Colleen Haley officiating.
Interment followed in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Langerhans was born Jan. 25, 1921, in Fredericksburg, the son of August John Langerhans and Bianca B. Ransleben Langerhans. He married Marjorie Lee Moore on June 4, 1942, in Fredericksburg. She preceded him in death on Sept. 16, 1971.
Langerhans and his wife, Marjorie, and his brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Grace Langerhans, established Langerhans Flower Shop in 1946. After a couple of years, Chester and Marjorie purchased the Roy Langerhans' interest in the business and expanded over the years, renaming it Langerhans Florist and Nursery which he operated for over 50 years.
They also opened a flower shop in Mason which was operated by his daughter and son-in-law, Jean Marie and Johnnie Clifton.
Langerhans is survived by two sons, one daughter and their spouses, including Jimmy Roy and Linda Langerhans, Mark and Janice Langerhans and Carletta and Pat Smith, and a son in law, Johnnie Clifton, all of Fredericksburg.
He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Grace Langerhans, of Anson.
In addition to his wife and parents, Langerhans was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Marie, Mrs. Johnnie Clifton; a granddaughter, Carlotta Lynn, Mrs. Daniel T. Alt; a brother, Johnnie Langerhans, and a sister, Louise, Mrs. Marshall Leazar.
