Thomas Richard Cowell Sr. was a son of Richard Cowell (born ca.1820-died 1840). Thomas was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1838. His mother died in 1839. Thomas came to this country around 1854 with his uncle, Dr. J. W. Cowell, by whom he was raised following the death of his parents. Thomas became a very successful Merchant Tailor.
