Ray was born on March 14, 1941 in the town of Woodville, son of the late Alfred and Mabel (Wettstein) Oakley. He graduated from Chilton High School, class of 1960. On November 24, 1962, he married Darlene Lau at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rantoul. Ray worked for WI Aluminum Foundry in Manitowoc where he was a journeyman-core maker for many years; retiring in 2005. He was the President of the Local 301 Union for many years as well. Ray was an avid fisherman, especially enjoying sturgeon fishing on Lake Winnebago. He also enjoyed deer and turkey hunting. Ray was a member of the Rockea Hunting Club, and he also was a faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Collins. Throughout the years, he served as the church secretary, a council member, was an elder, and was on the board of Christian education. Ray especially loved to spend time with his family.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years: Darlene of Chilton; their two children: Mark Oakley of Collins and Stephanie Oakley of Milwaukee; granddaughter: Annie Oakley of Collins; step-grandson: Evan Sorenson of Brillion; mother-in-law: Vila Lau of New Holstein; one brother and sister-in-law: David (Theresa) Oakley of Manitowoc; one sister: Sharon Vugrinovich of Manitowoc; sisters-in-law: Beverly (Carl) Daun of New Holstein, Suzanne (Bob) Griem of Fox River Grove, IL, and Janice (John) Moore of San Antonio, TX; special friends: Mike and Kathy Engler of Chilton; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law: Alfred Lau, brother: Marlin Oakley, and sister: Diane Rasmussen.
Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 5, 2014 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Collins. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Ross Henzi with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at church on Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The visitation will continue on Monday morning at church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
