Patrick loved rock-climbing in Yosemite, body surfing in Hawaii, football, music, good company, and family gatherings.
Patrick grew up in Southern California. As a child enjoying the waters of Southern California,
he amazed everyone with his derring-do on the high board, hurling himself fearlessly into the deep ends, executing mind-boggling flips over the sands at the beach. After graduation from Valencia High School in Placentia, where he played varsity football, Patrick studied at Claremont College and was awarded his law degree from Monterey Peninsula College of Law.
Specializing in Worker's Compensation law, he was a partner in the Salinas firm of Rucka, O'Boyle, Lombardo and McKenna. He served the people of the Salinas Valley for more than twenty years and became a master of his profession. He belonged to a number of professional associations, including the California Applicanta Attorneys Association, and argued several cases to the California Supreme Court.
Patrick was a brilliant intelligence, gentleman, storyteller, wit, and generous spirit. He wrote stories, poetry, and completed a novel. He enjoyed singing and playing harmonica. He will be
remembered as a force of nature: funny, charming, and deeply loved. To his family, he acted as confidante and confessor. He had an unusually close connection with his devoted nieces and
nephews, June, Andrew, Alanna, Kristel, Connor, Holly and Corianna. ''I do two things right,'' he once said, ''I listen and I tell them the truth.''
Patrick leaves behind a large extended family, including his bereaved three sisters Pamela, Mary and MargaretO'Shaughnessy; his brother-in-law, Brad Snedecor; double cousins Marc and Stephanie O'Shaughnessy and many other close cousins; aunts Marilyn Lindquist, Sylvia Walker, Ann Wright, Joann Miller, Lorraine High, Darlis Miller and Uncle Gus Miller, along with dearest friends and colleagues Kathleen Roberts, Blanca Alejo, John Kunkel, Emmett O'Boyle, Andrew McKenna, Manuel Martinez and Bob Gloye. He was preceded in death by
his father, Roger Charles O'Shaughnessy, and his mother, Helen June Miller O'Shaughnessy.
