Alice Lucille Tompkins of Lake of the Woods went home to the Lord on May 31, 2018 after celebrating her 98th birthday on May 23.
Mrs. Tompkins was born May 23, 1920, at the family farm in Caroline County, Va. which is now a part of the AP Hill Army Reservation. The farm had been in the Trice family for five generations. She was the last living child of George W. Trice and Bertha Trice. She was the widow of Calvin Franklin Tompkins. She is survived by two sons: Calvin Thomas Tompkins of Harrisburg, Pa. and Barry Trice Tompkins and his wife Kathy of Asheville, N.C.; three grandchildren Zachary Trice Tompkins and his wife Victoria, Amanda Frances Tompkins and Sarah Elizabeth Tompkins. She is also survived by her great-grandchild, Elias Xavier Tompkins and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Tompkins made her home in Lawrenceville, N.J. for 40 years and she moved back to Virginia to Lake of the Woods in 1987. She was a member of the P.E.O, Philanthropic Educational Organization for Women, and she was a member of the L.O.W. Woman’s Guild. She served many years on the church’s Shepherd’s Staff and she was a member of the Orange County Democratic Woman’s Club. She was also a member of the Susanna Chandler DAR chapter at Lake of the Woods.
A memorial service will be held at the Lake of the Woods church on June 11, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Tom Schaffer officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service in the Friendship Hall. Interment will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Bowling Green, Va. following the reception
