James H. Atwell, 87, of Matthews, died May 4, 2014, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. Born July 27, 1926, in Strang, Okla., to the late Roy and Bessie Templeton Atwell, he had worked in agriculture as a grain elevator operator. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Matthews, where he also served as a Deacon. On October 30, 1948, in Piggott, Ark., he married Juanita Ellen Stephens, who preceded him in death on September 18, 2012.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law; three daughters and two sons-in-law; four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Atwell, and one sister, Geraldine Pendleton.
Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
