Richard (Dick) L. Karn, 88, of Meadville, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Marquette Hospice House.

He was born Oct. 27, 1925, in Meadville, the son of the late Arthur L. and Thelma G. Kightlinger Karn.

Richard attended Meadville schools. He retired as a machine operator from Talon Inc. after 38 years of service.

He served during World War II, having entered the U.S. Army in l943, where he saw action in Europe with the 78th Lightning Division. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. He received an honorable discharge in 1946.

He was a former member of the Free & Accepted Masons Lodge 234. He was an avid hunter and had a hunting camp along with his father at Hearts Content in the Allegheny National Forest, where he enjoyed spending time.

Richard is survived by three daughters, Deborah Rutkowski and her husband, James, of Wyandotte, Mich., Karen Karn of Meadville, and Pamela Manross of Meadville; a son, David Karn and his wife, Kathi, of Cambridge Springs; two grandchildren, Tiffany Manross of Meadville and Rachel Rutkowski of Wyandotte; three great-grandchildren, Evan Miknyocki, Ava Miknyocki and Julia Miknyocki; and two nephews and one niece.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Leonard.

Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home & Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, pastor of Stone United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
