Born in Providence, he was the son of John J. and Bertha "Beth" A. (Letourneau) Lynch.

Mr. Lynch was the production manager and special projects coordinator for WPRI Channel 12 for 28 years. While at WPRI, he received an Emmy Award for his coverage of the 1996 X-Games in Providence. Before joining the WPRI staff, Richard was the lighting director for John Cafferty and Beaver Brown. Richard had many passions in life. He was an avid collector of antiques, rocks and minerals, stamps and hot sauces. He loved nature, expressing that appreciation through astronomy and gardening and held a master gardener certification from URI. He also loved cooking, collecting wine and taking trips to North Conway, N.H.
