Dexter Nolen, age 66, of Waco passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at a local hospital.

Funeral Services will be 10 AM Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Waco Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 PM Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.

Harold Dexter Nolen was born June 20, 1945 in Waco, Texas to Harold and Katie Skidmore Nolen. He graduated from Richfield High School in 1963 and attended Temple Junior College.

Main vocation during his life was in the finance business, medically retiring from the original First National Bank of Central Texas (now Wells Fargo) in 1991. In 1976, he took a break from the financial business to manage Westview Bowling Lanes from 1976-1981. He felt so fortunate to be able to have a job that was both a vocation and a hobby.

In 1973, he was the first Waco League Bowler to bowl a sanctioned 300. In 1978, he was the first Waco bowler to win first place in team, doubles, singles and all events in the annual city bowling tournament. In 1987, he was inducted into the Waco Men's Bowling Association Hall of Fame. In 1994, he was inducted into the Texas State Bowling Hall of Fame. These were just a few of the many bowling accomplishments during his life.

In 1970, he met the love of his life Susie, at a bowling center in Abilene, Texas. When he decided to move back to Waco in December of 1971, he brought her with him and they married in Waco, April 20, 1973.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Nolen; uncle, Jack Nolen; and aunt, Eunice Lee Blackburn.

He is survived by his wife, Susie Nolen of 38 years; his mother, Katie Nolen; cousin, Larry Nolen and wife Max; his beloved dog "Boy" and many friends.
