Esther spent her younger years in Skowhegan, Maine. She attended Burdett College and was employed by the International Department of the former Second National Bank of Boston, now the State Street Bank. She married Robert D. Norton in 1940 and resided in Reading, Mass. for 35 years.
In 1975, she and her husband retired to Beaver Meadow Village in Concord. After her husband's death in 1987, she moved to Havenwood Retirement Community.
In Skowhegan, Esther was very active in the Federated Church and in Reading in the First Congregational Church, Garden Club, Cub Scouts and PTA. In Concord she was a member of the First Congregational Church and a volunteer at Havenwood.
Family members include, three sons and three special daughters-in-law, Richard and Betty, Thomas and Bette and John and Hatsue; two grandsons, a granddaughter, and a great-grandson.
