Andrew Hartman, of Harrisburg, PA passed away on May 1, 2014 at Penn State Hershey Medical Center at the age of 53 years. A graduate of Penn State University (Physics) in 1982 and Georgetown University (MBA) in 1984, Andy was an employee of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 30 years in the Information Technology area. He was born in Evreux, France and graduated from Central Dauphin High School in 1978. He suffered a spinal cord injury in 1973 at his home swimming pool.
Andy was a member of Tyrian Lodge #205, Emmitsburg, MD, Robert Burns Lodge #464, Harrisburg, PA, the Harrisburg Consistory (Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite), Zembo Shrine, a charter member of the Zembo Shrine Sports Car Unit, (serving as Treasurer for 17 years), and the Think First spinal cord/head injury awareness program.
He is survived by his father & mother, Richard and Alice, his brother, Scott and his wife Barbara, his nieces Erica (husband Brian) Freedman and Hannah (husband Dustin) Weikel, along with their children. In addition, he is survived by a number of close friends that he considered brothers: David Rochkind (and his children Michelle & Alan), Andrew Weiss, Todd Hoover, David Swanger and Fred Lauer along with their wives and children.
As a result of his generosity and forethought, and through the Gift of Life, several others in need received his gift of vital organs that will enable them to survive. He continues to live on through them.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM on Saturday, May 10th , with services to follow at 10:30 AM, in the Hoover Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 6011 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg PA 17112. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to the Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, 1513 Race Street
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19102-1777 or the Reeve-Irvine Research Center, University of California – Irvine, 837 Health Sciences Road, Irvine, California 92697. Andrew's family also intends to establish a memorial scholarship in his name at Pennsylvania State University to assist worthy physically challenged individuals.
