Carl Byrd 78 of Eighty Eight, KY died Saturday, May 03, 2014 at T. J. Samson Community Hospital. He was born October 26, 1935 to the late Lonnie and Pearl Emmitt Byrd. Carl was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church and worked as a mechanic at Preston-Ropp Chevrolet, Dickerson Lumber Co. and the City of Glasgow. He loved his family, gospel music, working in the yard and restoring items around their home in the Eighty Eight community of Barren County.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Doris Gilpin Byrd; 2 sons Carl Timothy Byrd (Marla) of Eighty Eight and Collie Brian Byrd (Rosemary) of Summer Shade; 4 grandchildren Paxton (Jennifer) and Ashton (Jamie) McPherson of Glasgow, Tim Wood of Pensacola, FL and Nicholas Wood of Bowling Green; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; a sister Stella Matthews of Lexington and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 6 sisters, Mary Katherine Lewis, Virginia Green, Capitola Crumpton, Mildred Smith, Pricey Hurley and Madell Houck and 2 brothers Joe and Lonnie "Buster" Byrd.

Funeral services will be 2pm Tuesday, May 6th at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3pm Monday
