Elijah Hatfield was a blacksmith in Dixonville. He was called "Four Corners Hatfield" for means of identification. One brother, Tom, ran a farm on Deer Creek. Another brother, Charles, ran a blacksmith shop in Melrose, then moved to Tillamook County. Charles was the grandfather of Oregon Senator Mark Hatfield.
When he retired from blacksmithing, "Lige" hauled supplies from the Dixonville store to the Forest Service workers between Idleyld Park and Mac's Place.
