E.C. Carson, 66, former Belleville resident who died last week, at his home in Carthage, Mo., lived here until about 26 years ago, when the family moved to that city, and where he was engaged in the furniture business for more than twenty years. He was taken ill with appendicitis a week ago last Saturday but his condition was not considered critical until a few days before his death, when peritonitis set in. The end came without warning, as arrangements were being made to take him to the Carthage hospital for an operation. Mr. Carson was conscious until a few minutes before he passed away.

He was born in Macoupin county, Illinois March 12, 1859. At a later date he came west, and was married at Beatrice, Nebraska in 1886, to Ada J. Miles of that place. The following year they moved to Belleville to live. She preceded him in death last June. The deceased was a brother of Mrs. Chas. Palmer and a brother-in-law of W.D. Miles of this city. His body was brought here for burial, the funeral was held Sunday afternoon with burial in the Belleville cemetery beside Mrs. Carson. Two daughters, Iva L. and Vena M. Carson, of Carthage, Mo., survive, together with one brother, the Rev. H.P. Carson of Huron, South Dakota, three sisters, Mrs. Chas. Palmer, of this city, Mrs. L.L. Palmer of Gainsville, Florida, and Mrs. George R. Crispin of Lawrence, Kansas.
