Steven E. Blair, 60, of Danvers, Ill., went to be with our Lord at 4:55 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, in the comfort of his home with family at his side after a courageous and inspirational fight against brain cancer.

Steve was born July 21, 1951 in Grand Rapids, Minn., the son of Clyde "Bud" and Edith Mornes Blair. He married Patricia Gag on July 21, 1973. She survives.

Also surviving are two sisters, Janet (Patrick) Stram of Nashwauk, Minn.; Linda (Mike Roy) True of Grand Rapids, Minn.; one brother, William Blair of Grand Rapids, Minn.; four nieces, two nephews, and five great-nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law.

After graduating from high school, Steve attended a 2-year technical college to learn computer programming. He worked in the computer field for two years before entering the field of heavy-industrial construction. Steve worked in the construction field for 25 years, achieving the level of Project Manager before settling down in the Bloomington, Ill. area. Steve then returned to his computer background when he began working for State Farm Insurance, where he was employed when his cancer was diagnosed.

Steve was a member of the North Danvers Mennonite Church. Steve was a member of the Masons, having earned the level of 32nd degree; the Central Illinois Precision Shooters, having helped found the organization; the Wayward Motorcycle Association; and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. Steve had also earned his private pilot's license.

He loved his pets, sharing a cup of coffee, and being outdoors. Steve had many interests and made many friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Special thanks to Steve's church members, his friends at State Farm, his caregivers at Advocate Hospice, and his friends and neighbors that showed such kindness during his time on this earth.

Memorials may be made to the family to be distributed to Steve's favorite charities c/o Patty Blair P.O. Box 69., Danvers, IL 61732
