Samuel J. "Jim" Hicks, age 67, of Piney Flats, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born March 17, 1947 in Bristol, VA, a son of the late J.I. and Mabel McCoy Hicks. Jim served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a lifelong resident of the Blountville and Piney Flats area.

Jim was the Commissioner for the Blountville Utility District and was the operator of Tri-Cities Sullivan Utility District for 35 years. In addition he was the owner/operator of Lakeside Campground. He was a member of Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church. He was an avid bowler and was a member of several bowling leagues in the Bristol area.

Survivors include His loving wife of 39 years: Juanita Thomas Hicks Aunt Margie Hicks Sister-in-laws: Evelene Mullins and husband Eugene, Katy Blevins and late husband Jack Blevins, Theda Clay and husband Walter, Lucille Hopkins and husband Jim, Edith Thomas and late husband Tony Thomas
Special Cousins Pat, Steve, David, Ann, and Kathy Several Nieces and Nephews

The funeral service for Mr. Hicks will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in the Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Ecklund and Brother Phil Whitaker officiating. The burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 5, 2014 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Weaver Funeral Home. Military honors will be conducted by the Bristol VFW Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Paul Mullins, Tim Thomas, Ralph Mooney, Steve Hicks, Brian Clay and Lee Clay.Arrangements have been made with Weaver Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
