Joseph W. Bechan, Jr., 92, passed peacefully under the loving care of his family and the staff of Christopher House of Worcester on Thursday, February 28, 2013 after an illness. Joseph was born in W. Rutland the son of Joseph W. and Mary (White) Bechan, Sr.
Joseph proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the China Burma India Theater and Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a Patten Maker at Crompton-Knowles and a janitor at the Mercy Center both in Worcester. Later, he worked in maintenance at the York Towne Terrace in Holden. He was a member of the Pinecroft Bowling League and former member of St. Mary's Church in Jefferson.
His wife of 45 years, Charlotte (Morris) Bechan passed away in 1991. He is survived and will be sadly missed by his 2 daughters, Sharon A. McFarland and her husband Terry of York, Maine and Gayle M. Bowley and her husband David of Hubbardston; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. His son, Joseph W. Bechan III, died in 2006. A brother, George Bechan and two sisters, Mary Clara LaGrant and Beatrice Zoppo, predeceased him.
A private graveside service with full military honors will be held in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery in Oakham.
