Services for Aaron Mayo, 87, of Lufkin, Texas, were held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to be in Gann Cemetery.
Mr. Mayo passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Presbyterian Hospital in Plano, Texas. He was born on April 3, 1927 in Chester, Texas to Rueben E. and Coleta Mayo. His early years were lived in Angelina County. Aaron relocated to Houston in the early 1950's, returning to Lufkin in the mid 1980's.
Aaron was a soft spoken, gentle man who loved his Lord and Savior, wife and family. He worked as the owner of a brick mason business until retirement in 1989. Aaron spent his later years making sure his wife Velma's flower gardens were well tended and beautiful.
Aaron was a loving husband to Velma Lee Mayo and proud of his step-daughters, Vicki Walker of Dallas, Texas and Debbie Brown of Trophy Club, Texas. Aaron is also survived by his brothers, Raymon Mayo and wife, Joyce, of Lufkin, Texas; Willie Mayo, of Cleveland, Texas; sister, Susie Smith, of Cleveland, Texas; as well as his many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other friends.
