Peggy Juanita Sims, 87, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 2, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 3, at First Baptist Church, offiated by B.F. Risinger, of First Baptist Church, and Rick Lamb, of Northside Baptist Church. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Peggy was born in Denton, Texas, to the late Allen Addison Wills and Winnie Ella Ann Crowder Wills. Joe Gorman Sims and Peggy were married by Pastor Frank Weeden on January 10, 1947, at First Baptist Church of Denton, Texas. They immediately moved to Corsicana, Texas, where they joined First Baptist Church on January 15, 1947.

Peggy served as Educational Secretary at First Baptist Corsicana for several years. She was better known as Joe's helpmate, serving as his secretary at Joe G. Sims Bookkeeping and Tax Services for many years. Her greatest gift, however, was writing and teaching. Peggy wrote many newspaper editorials, from topics on travel to every day circumstances.

God also used her in a mighty way to minister to young men and women with special needs. She began the Special Ministries Sunday School class for her church and, in her years of teaching and directing, the class grew from one to over 50. Peggy was also asked to write Sunday School literature for the mentally handicapped for the Southern Baptist Convention and led workshops all over the U.S on the topic. God gave Peggy an empathetic heart and great gift to share it with.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; sister, Jane Reed; brother, Hubert Wills; great-granddaughter, Morgan Davis; along with several in-laws and dear friends.

Survivors include her son, Joe Allen Sims and wife, Vicki; daughters, Barbara Ann Acock and husband Danny, and Karen Elizabeth Cox and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Kristina Renee Chandler and husband Joe, Andrea Elizabeth Owens and husband, Ross, Jessica Ann Ockershauser and husband, Patrick, Shawn Michael Cox and wife, Hedwika, Jason Daniel Acock, and Aaron Matthew Sims; great-grandchildren: Ashley, Makenzie, Chase, Alexandra, Claire, Liam and Olivia; sister, Frances Moore, of Breckenridge, Texas; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and in-laws who will miss her.
