Funeral services for Carl A. Shumate were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 6, 1988, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Edina. Dr. Dale A. Jorgenson and the Rev. Michael Coleman officiated. Organist was Pauline Campbell. Entombment was in the Good Shepherd Mausoleum at Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville. Mr. Shumate, 66, of Edina, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, May 3, 1988, in Edina. Born September 23, 1921, in Knox County, he was the son of Charles and Fannie Isabelle (Hunter) Schumate. On June 14, 1953, at Edina, he married Doris L. Parker, who survives. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Virginia) Luker of Galesburg, Ill. and Hortense Shumate of Edina and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Charles Shumate, and a sister, Charlene Kingsley. Mr. Shumate was a lifelong resident of Edina where he graduated from high school. During his early years, he was employed by the Postal Department. For 42 years prior to his retirement in 1986, he was employed by the McKay Pharmacy. He was a past master of Edina Lodge 291, AF8AM, member of the Royal Arch Masons of Caldwell Chapter No. 53, Kirksville Council No. 44, Knight Templar of Ely Commandery No. 22 and Moila Temple of St. Joseph.
