A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 from Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. William Coleman officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery, Jefferson.
Born in Lancaster County, Mrs. Adams was a daughter of the late John and Annie Clyburn Wright. She was a member of Mt. Canaan Baptist Church where she served faithfully on several auxiliaries, most notably the Missionary Society. Later she was instrumental in founding Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Pageland. Serving as one of the Mothers of the church was one of the greatest honors Mrs. Adams received from the congregation. She had a gift for loving and caring for children. In addition to their own 10 children, she and her husband reared a number of children for extended family members and a host of other foster children. In 1988 she received the State Foster Parent of the Year Award. Mrs. Adams was a member of the Golden Gate Chapter 234 Order of Eastern Star in Kershaw.
Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy (Wallace) Duffie of Manhattan, N.Y., and Idell (Willie) Robinson of Jamaica Queens, N.Y.; a son, Linzie (Valerie) Adams of Charlotte, N.C.; three daughters whom she reared, Abigail (Nelson) Wallace of Sumter, Linda A. Cash of Society Hill, and Angel Jeter of Pageland; a grandson, Clay Adams of Charlotte; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law; sons-in-law; two sisters, Mayo Wright and Alice Adams of Jefferson; two sisters-in-law, Nelma Louallen and Faye Lee Wright of Jefferson; an aunt, Eva Welch; and a number of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by seven children, Bobby Adams, Peggy Adams, Jay Von Adams, Arthur Adams, Willie Mae Jeter, Emma Phillips and Shirley Gray.
