Lois Evelyn Springmire was born 11 Nov 1914 at Tiffin Iowa, the daughter of Philo and Mary Allen Springmire. She grew up in the Tiffin area, the daughter of a successful farmer. She attended the local schools in the area and helped her parents on the farm, as all farm children did at that time. When it came time to further her education, she attended and graduated from Iowa City high school. After high school, she was employed at the Strub store in Iowa City.

Lois was united in marriage with Elmer Hinkhouse on 7 Aug 1935 at the Methodist parsonage in Spirit Lake, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple made their home on a farm near West Liberty, Iowa where her husband was engaged in farming. By 1950, the couple gave up farming as an occupation and moved to Cedar Rapids. After the move to Cedar Rapids, Lois went to work for the Killian Company and was employed with them for 18 years. In 1987 Elmer passes away and Lois moved back to West Liberty. It was here that she renewed an acquaintance with an old friend, FeDale McIntosh and they were married in 1988.

During her married life, Lois was active in the community. She was a member of St Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids and Tipton United Methodist Church in Tipton. She was also a member of Women’s Federated Study Club of Tipton, Women’s Club, Women of the Moose Lodge 730 and Pricilla Circle. But her most important activity was being a mother to one daughter and a grandmother to three grandchildren.

Lois joined her first husband, Elmer Hinkhouse, in eternal peace on 11 Feb 1993. She passed away at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty after a long illness at the age of 78 years and 3 months. She was laid to rest next to Elmer at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa 15 Feb 1993.

Lois left behind to mourn her loss, a daughter, Sue Ham of Mechanicsville, Iowa, a brother, Howard Springmire of Cedar Rapids, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
